UK and Europe Travelogue Part III (Final)

•November 25, 2009 • 6 Comments
Final part of my travelogue..  Sorry la lambat update.

We’ve arrived in Paris, France.. finally!!
City of love and romance. Bonjour!

Tenth Day

Alright! First thing first – we need to find our hotel. Hehe.
We stayed at the Le Meridien Montparnasse, Paris.

Le Meridien Montparnasse, Paris

Le Meridien Montparnasse, Paris

http://www.lemeridien-montparnasse.com/

There’s another Le Meridien in Paris which is the Etoile but Shanky got this one which is much more better. I think? My guess would be because it’s nearer to the metro station? Anyway, I love it.

The hotel won’t allow additional person (that’s me) to check-in to a 2 persons room – so we have to pay extra. WTH? Shanky should’ve bribe the frontdesk guy instead. Or maybe I should sneak in quietly? Hm… Too late for that.

The lobby of Le Meridien Montparnasse

While waiting for our room to be ready, we went for the hotel’s buffet breakfast.
Got 50% discount! Thanks to Shanky. After convert – don’t ask me. Freakin’ expensive still. Hahaha.
Apa nak buat, all 3 of us were really hungry. Plus tired and sleepy. That stupid bus.
The food was so-so.. the usual stuffs. I missed my nasi lemak + telur mata so bad at that time.

Buffet @ Le Meridien

Shanky tak puas hati coz they don't serve teh tarik. Hihi.

Shanky tak puas hati coz they don't serve teh tarik. Hihi.

We were allowed to check-in only at 11am.
While waiting, I wondered around the hotel’s surroundings – checked the map/signboards, places to go, supermarkets etc.
Shanky and Cat took a short nap at the lobby’s sofa.
Hai.. Mana2 pun boleh tido. Hahaha. No.. I wont post their pictures here. 😛

Just opposite of Le Meridien is SNCF HQ in Paris

This roundabout just north of the hotel is called Place de Catalogne

This roundabout just north of the hotel is called Place de Catalogne

Once we checked in – unpacked, bathed ~ it’s nap time.
Ah…. the bed and the pillow.. It’s so.. comfortable. Plus it’s raining outside. Ah.. Heaven.
After that horrible night in the bus, this is a very much needed rest.

After that horrible bus ride, this bed feels like heaven. 🙂

When we woke up, it’s already evening.
We planned to visit the magnificent Eiffel Tower. 🙂
I wonder how it looks like at night. Huhu. Kalau couple la yang pergi sini, peh.. memang jiwang karat abis la.

Thank God, the weather is on our side today. The rain stopped right before we start our journey.

Paris view from our room. The buildings are packed right?

Took the metro to Bir Hakiem Station.
One thing I really like about Paris Metro is, most of their stations are located near to the tourist spots and attractions. It is so convenient.

The Eiffel Tower - clear blue sky!

We have to walk a bit from the station to the tower.
I think it’s approximately around 10 – 15 minutes walk which is fine by me.
Similar to Amsterdam, the weather here is cold too despite the bright sunlight. Haha.

Photo proof! - Nanti cakap aku temberang pulak.

The base of Eiffel Tower. Sunset view.

Cat, Shanky and Eiffel.

We paid 13 Euros/person to go all the way up to the tower’s summit (not bad.. considered cheap lor).
The tower got 3 levels or floors. We stopped at the 1st level. The view from there – magnificent.

The view from 1st floor. Kat bawah tu taman. Cantik wo..

Paris view from Eiffel Tower - 1st floor

View of Seine River, Paris.

Then we proceed to the 2nd level (You need to change to a different lift from this floor) – The view there – terrific. Better than 1st level.. obviously.

View from the 2nd floor. The sun almost setting..

Church (I think?) on top of the hill. Wo...

As the sun sets..

I don’t know what’s the name of the building but I think the top is made out of gold? Wow..
Then, from here you need to climb the stairs to get to the top (3rd level) – The view from here..

I can’t even describe it in words. It’s totally out of this world. Speechless!!

Distance - Paris to KL: 10433KM. Malaisie? Heh. WTH?

Sunset view from Eiffel's top floor.

It’s really amazing to be able to stand here with the breathtaking view right in front of you.
It’s a totally different feelings altogether. It feels like you’re on top of the world.
The sunset made the feelings even better. Perfect timing! 🙂

I'm lost for words...

No wonder lah a lot of couples love to visit this tower.
The atmosphere is so romantic and I’m sure a lot of guys proposed to their girlfriend/fiancee here before. 🙂

Hm.. I wonder if anyone jumped from the tower before?  😛

Way... far down. Vertigo?

It’s really really cold up there.
Did I mentioned the wind? Yeah.. I hid behind one of the steel pillar just to avoid the wind.
As if it works lah.. Hehehe. Especially when it’s already dark.
Night time – my God it’s freezing to the bone!!

Glamourous Eiffel Tower at night. Vertical view.

Paris view at night

Unfortunately for me – all of sudden my camera’s battery ran out.
Yup! I forgot to recharge it. Damn it! Arghh!! Out of all the time in this world kan?
I was really looking forward to capture the sunset view from the tower.
Tapi.. apa nak buat.. I was forced to use my phone’s camera instead. So sad!!
The quality is not there at all. Well at least.. better than nothing.

The base of Eiffel Tower @ night. Notice the moon crescent?

After that, we lepak around the Eiffel Tower area for a bit.
More info: http://www.tour-eiffel.fr/teiffel/uk/

Me with Sir Eiffel. Thank you sir!

Then we bought some souvenirs before went back to the hotel.
Try bargaining with those local people selling the keychains and stuffs at the base of the tower.
It’s very much cheaper from the gift shop.

Once in a lifetime...

Hm.. What I had for dinner?

All these for 32.47 euros.. *sigh

Eleventh Day

Got up quite early today.
The plan for today is – full day of Paris main attractions.
I doubt we can cover all of it. 😦

Which way to go?

First stop: Louvre Museum
I recommend everyone to visit this museum.
Entrance fee is only 9 Euros. Quite cheap I would say (I anticipated higher). 🙂

The Louvre Museum @ Musée du Louvre houses 35,000 works of art drawn from 8 departments, displayed in over 60,000 square meters of exhibition space dedicated to the permanent collections.

Outside of Louvre. It's just next to the metro station.

This place is massive!! Hm.. To really enjoy every paintings, sculptures, artifacts and arts here – you actually need a full day or maybe 2.
We completed all of  it in 2 hours. Hahahaha!! Nampak sangat ke-tidak-artistiknya kitaorang ni.
Ehem! Sebenarnya time is very tight. That’s why we have to rush things a bit.

Posing tak hengat.. Hehehe.

Here are some pictures taken there.

Pyramid du Louvre

Taken partially from Wikipedia:
It was designed by a Chinese born American architect, I. M. Pei (Ieoh Ming Pei) who is responsible for the design of the Miho Museum in Japan among others.

The structure, which was constructed entirely with glass segments, reaches a height of 20.6 meters. It consists of 603 rhombus-shaped and 70 triangular glass segments.

Cupid and Psyche

One of my favorite marble sculptures.
It’s about a legendary love tale similar to modern day Beauty and the Beast. Hehe..
Go ahead and google it.

Potrait of Monalisa by Leonardo da Vinci

Mona Lisa (also known as La Gioconda or La Joconde) is a 16th century portrait painted in oil on a poplar panel by Leonardo da Vinci during the Italian Renaissance.

Another nice painting shown there is David versus Goliath.
1 theme, 2 paintings, 2 different views.
Well done! I’m surprised with the details.

David versus Goliath - view from front.

David versus Goliath - view from the back.

All of the sculptures there are huge!!!
I think the myth that those people back then are gigantic might be true la. Macam tapak kaki Hang Tuah? 😛

Thehehe.. Thanks Cat for the pic.

Orang KL kalau pergi muzium memang macam ni. Hehehe.

Another main attraction here is this sculpture.
Venus de Milo.
It’s believed to depict Aphrodite (Venus) – the Greek Goddes of Love and Beauty.
Its arms and original plinth have been lost.

Rasanya brand air Milo tu dapat idea dari sculpture ni? Takde kena mengena langsung!

Venus de Milo

 Next: Notre Dame

Notre Dame de Paris @ Notre Dame Cathedral

A cathedral church built as a dedication to the Virgin Mary.
We got lost a few times while trying to figure out the way here. Hehe.
I didn’t go in the church. Only Cat and Shanky went in.

Me @ Notre Dame, Paris

I just sat in front (or is it the back?) of it ~ admiring the fine architecture and gargoyles.
You can actually go all the way up to the roof of the church if you want to.

The gargoyle, sitting on edge of the building's roof. Blur la..

The church reminds me of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Hm.. Betul ke ada si bongkok tu?

Final: Champs de Elysees and Arc de Triomphe

Me in front of Lido - Champs Elysees, Paris

Hahaha!! – I don’t even know how to pronounce it correctly.
It’s actually known as the world most beautiful avenue and it’s really beautiful at night.
With all the lights and rows of luxury boutiques, cafes, cinemas etc.

According to Wikipedia – rents as high as USD1.5 million per 1,000 square feet (92.9 square metres) of space, it remains the most expensive strip of real estate in Europe.
Don’t know whether it’s true or not.

However, here you can see the biggest Louis Vuitton boutique ever. It’s huge!
The avenue started from the Concorde until Arc de Triomphe.

Arc de Triomphe @ Arch of Triumph

To get this monument’s picture during the day without any vehicles passing by is almost impossible!

Oh! I forgot to mentioned. All 3 of us, walked all the way from Notre Dame to Champs de Elysees.
That’s one hell of a walk. Around 4 km and it took us 1 hour plus to get there. Phew!
The weather was cloudy and it drizzles once in a while.

Place de la Concorde

We passed by Place de la Concorde – one of the major public squares in Paris and the largest square in the French capital.
The monument – called Luxor Obelisk marks the beginning of the avenue.

That guy Alain Robert aka ‘French Spiderman’ climbed the monument with his bare hands, climbing shoes and no safety device in 2000 – that is really crazy.

Night falls – time to go back. Exhausted!!

Took the metro straight to Gaite station – you pronounced it as Gete. Hehe. Mace orghe Kelate pulok.

Stop by a supermarket nearby our hotel and we bought some food for dinner.
Watched Barcelona kicked Man U’s a** and won the Champions League Title.
It’s been a good day. 🙂

Twelveth Day aka Final Day

Today is our last day in Paris and also UK.
We’re taking the Eurostar from Paris to London.

Eurostar @ Paris Gare du Nord station. Our ride back to London.

Cat made the booking online and the tickets were then sent to Nurul’s address in Amsterdam.
That’s the only way since Eurostar website don’t allow online confirmation and tickets can only be sent to certain countries. Malaysia is no where to be found in the list. Bummer!

You can also walk in to their counter and buy the tix on the spot but the price will be very very expensive.

We got ours at a very cheap price for the 2 hours journey. RM311 per person I think?
That’s a one way journey and under promo okay… mahal gak tu. Guess how much will be the price if it’s normal? Around a few hundreds pounds.

From Gare du Nord International, Paris to St Pancras International, London.

How can I describe the journey?
Fast, exciting and seemless. I was asleep. 😛

Cat caught me sleeping. It's dark outside coz we're the Channel Tunnel.

The train run at up to 300 km/h and cross under the English Channel via the Channel Tunnel.
If you ask me, how was it traveling underneath the sea via the tunnel?
It’s the same like how you travel through highway’s tunnel.

It was dark with some lights along the way and.. actually you can’t see anything.. till you get to the other side.
Silly me, thought that the tunnel will look like something in KL Aquaria. Hahaha.
Dunno where I got the idea. 😦

St Pancras International, London. Yay!

We arrived safely in London and it’s on time as per schedule.
Took the tube and since we’re there early – I decided to go for a last minute shopping.
I went to Carnaby Street and entered this shop called Size?.
http://size.co.uk
I got myself a pair of Adidas Court Star for around RM 100 which was quite a bargain. Check out the shoes here:
http://size.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10701_11551__155592_-1_footwear
You can’t get that price anywhere in KL. Lucky me! 🙂

We then returned to Sheraton to pick up our bags which we left before we went to Amsterdam.
Went to see Shanky’s friend for a last time, hang out in her convertible VW Beetle and then headed straight to Heathrow to catch our bus to Stansted Airport.

Our luggage.. this is ridiculous! Hahaha.

The return flight was okay.. I slept most of the time. 😛
Overall.. I would say this trip is one of the best trip that I’ve ever had and I will remember it for the rest of my life. Surely.

Special thanks to Shanky and Cat for all the planning, reservations, organizing all the stuffs and being my travel buddy. We’re so muhibbah. Hehe. We shall do this again. Maybe?
Thanks to Nurul for Amsterdam’s accomodation and food yang you belanja. Mintak halal dunia akhirat. 🙂
Thanks to Jason who sent us to the airport. You’re late.. as usual. Hehe.
Thanks to my boss, David who are flexible for my annual leaves arrangement.
Last but not least.. thanks to all who made this possible. God bless you all.

Will I go again? Maybe. Hopefully. Insyallah.
Which city will I vote as my favorite? Definitely London. 🙂

Buhbye!

Till then.

The 3 series @ 30 sen

The 3 series @ 30 sen

Alright! It’s official now..
I am 30 years old as of today. Haha. Dah tua dah aku. Hampeh!

There’s nothing much actually..
I didn’t celebrate it with anyone.
Just birthday wishes from my family, love ones, colleagues and friends.
It’s amazing because.. I actually don’t feel lonely anymore.
Alhamdulillah.. I’m surrounded by those people who love and care  ’bout me a lot.

From the bottom of my heart.. Thank you all.

Semakin hari.. aku menjadi semakin matang.
Semakin hari.. aku semakin memahami erti kehidupan.
Semakin hari.. aku semakin menghargai cinta dan kasih sayang.
Semakin hari.. aku menjadi semakin tabah menghadapi dugaan.
Semakin hari.. aku belajar untuk bangkit semula dari kegagalan.

I want to have a better life and I want to achieve more.
I’ve screwed my life a few years back and there’s no way that I can get it back.
I’ve failed and lost and endured pain so much till I can’t even think of any words to describe it.

Hm.. One thing that I’ve realized after all these years..
It’s really not easy to live in this world.

.. and this words taken from “The Rocky V” always reminds me to not to give up.. ever.

____________________________________________________________________________________

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows.
It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.
You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.
But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.
How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.
Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth.
But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody.
Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!”

~ Well said Mr. Balboa.

Life goes on..  and yes, I do believe time will heal everything.. eventually.  🙂
May God bless me and fulfil my hopes and dreams! Insyallah 🙂

Mohon keampunan dosa-dosa
Yang ku lakukan

Untukmu duhai dinda yang setia
Harungi derita
Marilah bersama kita saling
Bermaaf-maafan
Semoga lebaran ini
Membawa keinsafan diri
Sejarah yang hitam
Agar tidak terulang
Untuk selamanya

Pada dia yang pergi
Kita hulur doa tulus suci
Agar roh mereka dicucuri

On the sixth day we flew with bmi from Heathrow to Amsterdam.
I’m very excited. I’m going to Netherlands, yeah!
Cat got us the flight tickets after intensive search online.  Thanks again..
Total fares is RM340 per person – and that’s the cheapest and available at that time.
Our flight was scheduled at 4pm.

For more info on bmi: http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/index.aspx

Arrived at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol at around 5pm plus.
Haha.. What a short flight and it went well too.
The immigration process was smooth and much more relaxed compared to London.

Nurul requested for an upgrade to a bigger room since the room that she booked is too small to fit all 4 of us.
Actually, I don’t really mind the small room but hey.. she wants it. We just follow lah.
They gave us a suite which is really spacious and comfy plus an extra bed for me. Hehe.
By the time we checked in, unpacked our stuffs, it’s already late evening.

The hotel's official car. Sweet!

Dutch most famous snack. Herring = a type of fish.

Traditionally, the fish (after cutting off its head) is eaten by grabbing it by the tail, throw your head back, and then gently lowering the fish into your mouth.. Macam tak senonoh sikit la tapi.. it’s their culture back then.
Search la online if you want to know more. It’s not raw like sushi. Something like ikan perkasam kot?

Just in case someone is looking for the recipe, here you go. Senang jer la nak buat.

Also in Dam Square. The National Monument. For WWII victims.

From Dam Square, we walked to Nieuwmarkt. We passed by Chinatown (there’s even a temple here tau!)  and Red Light District (daerah lampu merah kata orang melayu).
Interesting place but the square are packed with tourists.
It’s too crowded. Wouter did mentioned about a street there that he said the worst street in Amsterdam. Huh?I can’t remember the name and the reason why.
Something to do with tourists and stuffs I guess.

De Waag

This building is called De Waag.
Used to be a weighing house way back those days. Now transformed to a really cool looking cafe.

Another canal shot. A lot of Amsterdam people own a boat.

Unfortunately.. I fell sick right after we hang out at one of the cafe. My temperature went up suddenly.
Head back to hotel and I slept all the way after medication. Nasib baik bawak ubat. Kalau tak.. ntahlah.
I dunno why I fell sick.. maybe because of pigeon’s feathers?
Kat sini banyak betul pigeons @ burung merpati.. they’re everywhere. Okay, almost everywhere.

Sorry guys for spoiling the rest of your day.
We planned to check out the *cough*so-called-fine-ladies*cough* at the Red Light Disctrict that nite.
In the end, all of them stayed in the room.. teman me. Ow.. so sweet you guys..

Note: Sapa habiskan maggi aku?

Eightth Day
Taken from wikipedia:
There are more than one hundred kilometers of canals in Amsterdam, along with about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges, have led the city to being termed the “Venice of the North”. The three main canals, Herengracht, Prinsengracht, and Keizersgracht, dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, form concentric belts around the city, known as the grachtengordel. Alongside the main canals are 1550 monumental buildings. ~ Cool facts!

The ladies, waiting at the pier.. Hehe. I like this pic.

The ladies, waiting at the pier.. Hehe. I like this pic.

Today, we planned to tour around Amsterdam using Canal Bus Hop on – Hop Off.
The fare – EUR17.50 for 24 hours.
Meaning if you bought the tix today at 12pm. It’s valid till 12pm the next day.
Why am i explaining this? Sheesh!

The view inside of the Canal Bus

The ride was hm.. how should I say it? Hm.. Fun!! I felt like a kid again. 😛
The weather was good, bright and not that windy.
Someone told me – the canal water is so dirty until if you fell into it, you have to go to the hospital and get a shot. Whether it’s true or not.. I don’t want to find out.. Heh. Tapi itik tu rilek aje?
But the water did look smurky and erm.. dirty. Not smelly tho. Normal jer la.

Hahaha.. We didn’t go in coz it’s freakin expensive and the queue was very long.
We don’t wanna wait, so we had breakfast instead at Bagels n Coffee.
I had chocolate croissant. Yum!

This is really really good pastry.. or am I just hungry?

We then headed to the Central Station.
Got lost a few times. Hahaha. It’s really easy to get lost in Amsterdam.
Seriously, with the map and the road’s name and the canal, and the building.
Everything looks the same to me!! Darn!

Something unique apart from their canal bus and boats.

The famous Van Gogh Museum. I'm glad we went in. Well worth it!

The highlight of the day: Van Gogh Museum.
It’s really huge.. to cover the entire gallery, it might take around 3 – 4 hours.
There’s an exhibition going on at the museum when we’re there.
It’s called: Van Gogh and the colours of the night.
I love it! Love the impressionists!

There's an exhibition held there. Lucky! :)

Only a handful are being displayed here in Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam.

Cat and Shanky's happy face. Excited!?

Cat and Shanky - happy face. Excited!?

Taken from wikipedia:
27 July 1890, at the age of 37, he walked into the fields and shot himself in the chest with a revolver. He did not realize that his wound was fatal, and returned to the Ravoux Inn. He died there two days later.

– Whoa! suicide? that’s just crazy!! and he died 2 days later after he shot himself? That’s… Hm.. ouch!

Can’t take any picture inside the museum. But Cat being Cat. Tsk..

We lepak at the cafe nearby.. Chit-chatting.

The bus station ~ Amsterdam Amstel

The bus station ~ Amsterdam Amstel

Took the tram, then the metro – destination: Amstel Station.
Yep! We took Eurolines from Amsterdam to Paris.
The bus fare is cheap – EUR18 one way.

Eurolines - the coach that we took ~ ride of our life.

Eurolines - the coach that we took ~ ride of our life.

The journey took around 8 hours across Belgium – it’s really the most unforgetable ride of my life.
I’m pretty sure Cat and Shanky feels the same. Haha!
The bumpy ride and uncomfortable seats.. Plus the stop in Belgium.
One thing we will never forget is the bus driver.
Cat called him bus driver gila kuasa yang neurotik. 😛

I sat at the back ~ Regret!. That bald guy is the bus driver.

I sat at the back ~ Regret!. That bald guy is the bus driver.

Most memorable moment:
Driver: English, French?
Me: Er.. English?
Driver: Ok, NO eating, NO drinking, Keep your shoes! (He stressed this part a bit).
Me: Okay..
Driver move on to the row in front of me.
Driver: English, French?
Passenger: Er.. English?
Driver: Okay, you heard what I said just now? NO eating, No drinking and keep your shoes!
Passenger: Okay.. (Grin)

That cwazy driver said that to every single row in the bus. Sheesh!! I think everyone got it already lah.
Cakap macam speaker. I think he own the bus kot. Heh.

Reached Paris @ 6am.

Arghh.. my back.. my butt.. my neck.. ~ Never again!

Next post will be the final part. Stay tuned..

UK and Europe Travelogue Part I

•August 16, 2009 • 9 Comments

As I promised..
This will be part one out of three, UK + Europe Travelogue.
Baca sampai lebam okay?

All pictures are unedited. Just as it is. The one without my watermark are taken from Cat’s camera.

Actually, I don’t know where or how to start actually.. Haha.
There’re so many things to share. Alright here goes..
Some of you might already know that this trip is actually a last minute travel arrangement which is not even in my 2009 plan.
I named it “Aidil’s trip of my life”. Macam best jer kan? Hehe.
Well.. It is once in a lifetime opportunity and I don’t know when I’ll have the chance to travel to these places ever again.

The Muhibbah Travellers

The Muhibbah Travelers – ready for departure.

My Air Asia X ticket from KL to London was roughly around RM1600 return including food (twice in each flight both ways), upgraded to 20KG for luggage (return) and I also included an AirAsia Comfort Kit.
Quite a bargain right? Well, it was bought during promotion actually.
Ehem, I don’t really need the Comfort Kit actually but biasalah.. semua nak try. First-timer la katakan. Hehe.
In the Comfort Kit there’s a blanket, an eye mask and also an inflatable neck pillow. Usual stuffs.
Which, you can bring on your own if you wanna save up a bit.

Depart: LCCT, Sepang – Malaysia
Date: 17th May 2009, Sunday
Time: 5.30 PM
Flight: Airbus 340 – D7 2008
Destination: Stansted Airport, London

The flight was okay. Not so bad I would say..
I expected worst but fortunately it’s not as bad as I thought. A few bumps along the way when the plane have to go thru the air pockets.
The seat is better than the normal short distance flight.. – Phew! Thank God..
I slept most of the time throughout the flight. Luckily the seat next to mine was empty. Hehe.
We reached Stansted Airport around 12.00 midnight. 40 mins ahead of schedule.
Hm.. not bad..

Stansted Airport

London Stansted Airport

London Stansted - Cat and Me

London Stansted – Cat and Me

Stansted Airport is UK’s 3rd busiest airport after Heathrow and Gatwick.
Most of the low-cost airlines operate from here such as – Ryanair, easyJet and obviously AirAsia.
And for those who are not very familiar with London, this airport is quite far from the city.
The location is a bit outskirt. It’s approximately around 48 km from Central London.
Lebih kurang KL – LCCT la. Jauh jugak tu..

Shanky and Cat

Shanky and Cat – just happy to be able to smoke.

The immigration process was like what I’ve expected.. but slightly smoother and quite quick too.
They asked about the purpose of my visit, how long I intend to stay, where I’ll stay and yada yada yada..
After collecting our luggage, we went to look for the coach counter.
– thanks to Cat, all travel transportation needs have been arranged prior.

The coach tix that we bought online was scheduled at 3.00am or something, can’t really remember.
The fare is around RM123. Ha… Mahal kan? Hehehe.
Since we’re there early, we managed to get an earlier coach to Heathrow.
By the way, our hotel is located near Heathrow Airport. Hence, we’re heading there.
The bus services in UK is very efficient I would say. Prompt on time.
We took the 1.00am National Express coach. Thanks to the driver.
You can book the tix here at http://www.national express.com

Before that, each of us bought an Oyster Card for GBP12 (Stored value of GBP10 in it).
It’s something like our Touch n Go Card.
You can use this card for bus, rails and tube plus you can top up the value if you’re running low.
More info regarding this card, you can check it out here: www.visitlondon.com/travel/oyster/

Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport – early morning

The bus journey took around an hour plus to reach Heathrow Airport Bus Terminal.
It’s like this.
Stansted Airport —-> Heathrow Airport —> (Hotel)
What an effort right? That’s the cheapest way we could find though.
We took London Metrocab to our hotel. Mahal wo.. The blardy 15 minutes ride costs us GBP11.80.
Well, it’s 3.00 in the morning, and prolly it include the night extra fees as well.
Anyway, by that time all of us were already tired to do say anything anyway.
So, paid the fare.. check in the hotel.. unpacked.. took a bath.. sleep..

This is where we stayed in London for the next 5 days.
Sheraton Skyline Heathrow, London.

Sheraton Skyline Heathrow

Sheraton Skyline Heathrow – London

Thanks to Shanky for the accomodations arrangement. She got this at a very good price.
UK’s accommodations are very expensive you see.. especially if you’re staying nearer to the Central London area.
If you staying in a hostel or bed and breakfast hotel, maybe it’s a bit cheaper.
Then again, the further you are.. less expensive it’ll be.

Sheraton Skyline Heathrow - Lobby

Lobby – Sheraton Skyline Heathrow. Ehem!

Second Day
Nurul arrived from Amsterdam at around 11am.
First thing all of us did is find out the way to Central London.
There’s a free shuttle bus from the hotel to Hatton Cross tube station.
From there we took a tube to Green Park station.
The tube fare is cheaper after 9.30am. There’s something like a time zone where the fare is cheaper during non peak hours.
If I’m not mistaken I paid GBP2.20 for a single trip and it took around 45 minutes to get to Central London.

London Tube

Shanky, Nurul(can see a bit only) and me  – the very obvious tourists

We went for a brunch at this small cafe called Wrap n Roll.
– since the hotel didn’t provide any free breakfast for the guests?
It’s different from how Asia’s hotel operates where most of the time there’ll be free breakfast included.
Here in UK and also Europe, you won’t get that. Anywhere.. so, don’t bother asking.

London cafe - Wrap n Roll

It’s quite cold outside and I had my first UK’s tuna sandwich here.

The ladies went for a shopping spree.
There’s French Connection, ZARA, Topshop, Miss Selfridges.. all those famous UK brand shops lah.
We walked around Oxford Street, Bond Street and also the famous Carnaby Street.
Oddly, I didn’t see any shopping mall here in Central London. Maybe ada la somewhere around here. Hidden.
Most of them are boutiques, small shops and shop lots.
So, a lot of walking.. and walking and.. walking. Penat woo..

London - Carnaby Street

Carnaby Street, London

Carnaby Street - Mural

Wall art found at one of the building in Carnaby Street – Nice!

Nurul bought me a Liverpool Jersey.
It’s my long due birthday present. Ahahaha.. Thanks dear.
Custom made with my name printed at the back plus Stevie G’s lucky number 8. Nice!
You shouldn’t have.. but then again. Hehe. You’ve promised right? 😛
I can’t tell how happy I am. Since I don’t have the chance to go to Anfield… this might be my pengubat luka.
Chewah! Again thank you very much. It means a lot to me..

Nurul's gift - Liverpool Jersey

My favourite Liverpool’s jersey with my name and Gerrard’s number 8 – sweet!

London - boutiques

Quiksilver, Lacoste, Apple Store, Ted Baker and Fcuk.. and double decker busses.

At 7pm we went back to our hotel.
Had a buffet dinner (it cost us GBP11 each) at the hotel’s restaurant.. and it’s not that good. Or maybe I’m too tired..
Nevertheless, it’s still cheap tho considering the price before discount. Heh.
….

Third Day

In London Tube - Shanky and Cat

Shanky and Cat – happy to be in the Tube

London - Waitrose

The ladies in front of Waitrose

Metropolitan Railway Station

 London National History Museum

National History Museum London

We went to National History Museum..
Tak sah la kalau jalan kat London tapi tak masuk museum kan? There’re lots of them.
Some are free, some you need to fork out a few quids for the entrance fee.
This one is free – see how we managed our travel budget? Hehe.
It’s huge. No.. it’s really really really huge. The building can fit lotsa dinosaurs ma..
Hehe. I don’t think we covered the entire museum because that would take 4 hours.
So ‘lil time, so may things to do.

Me @ National History Museum London

Posing habis dah nih – Eheh..

The biggest dinosaur's fossil in the museum

Inside the museum’s main lobby – huge ass dinosaur fossil (I dunno what type is it)

Dinosaur's tail

Me~ so puny compared to the fossil

T-Rex's head

T-Rex’s head – it’s huge… “itu baru kepalanya pak” Thehehe..

National History Museum - Main Hall

This is the main hall of the museum – picture taken from the staircase.

National History Museum - from 1st floor

This was taken from the opposite angle – nice staircase kan?

Went to South Kensington Street.
I dunno why we’re here.
Oh.. I guess we got lost. Ahahaha..
Had a coffee at one of the cafe while trying to figure out where to go next.
We then took a cab to High Street Kensington.
There’s a few shops there. Walked here and there a bit.

Lost

Trying to figure out the map – dah sesat tapi tak nak tanya orang. Hehe.

Took the tube to Turnham Green to meet up with Sham.
Sham is Shanky’s friend. She got married and currently working here in one of the legal firm.
I think we got lost on the way here as well. Hahaha. What la you guys..

Sham and Shanky

Sham and Shanky – chillin’ outside

Anyway, she took us to one of the bar there.
We lepak outside to smoke and chat.
It’s really really cold. Damn cold!
The temperature was 11 Celcius for God sake.
I can’t remember how many sticks of ciggy I smoked but I just can’t keep myself warm.
Sheesh! The weather is really unpredictable.

Cat and Nurul

Bestfriends – Cat and Nurul

Sham sent us back to the hotel but before that we went to Sainsbury to buy a few stuffs ~thanks Sham.
Sainsbury is one of the famous supermarket there like Tesco and Waitrose.
I can’t remember what I bought there but I think something for dinner la kot?

Fourth Day
Plan for today – go for sightseeing.
First stop – London Bridge Station.

London Bridge

Group picture at London Bridge Station – except Shanky that is

Well actually the famous bridge is the Tower Bridge. Why they called it London Bridge?
From the station after breakfast, we walked towards London Bridge Pier.
We passed by London Dungeon.
Didn’t go in coz it’s quite expensive (around 22GBP) plus I’m the only one who’s interested.
Terpaksalah tengok dari luar jer.. Huhu.

London Dungeon

The London Dungeon ~ Huhu. From across the street.

London Pier

London Bridge City Pier. PRET ~ where we had our brunch.

Cat and Nurul

Cat and Nurul after full stomach ~ so happy ar

From across the pier, we can see the London Tower.
As we walked on along the pier.. There it was – HMS Belfast. A war ship that the British used during World War II.
Still in good condition with turrets and all. It’s a museum ship now.
Kalau nak masuk boleh.. GBP11 aje.. Heh.
The location is not too far from the Tower Bridge.

HMS Belfast

HMS Belfast – the war ship

Rocket? Shuttle?

I can’t remember what’s the name of that weird-yet-beautiful building

We then walked across the Westminster Bridge.
It’s a long walk… but I didn’t feel tired tho. Plus lots of people walk here.
It’s easier and more convenient because the places are located close to each other.
Maybe because the weather is not like Malaysia.. so it feels nice to walk.
Kalau kat Malaysia.. hm.. sendiri mau ingatlah. Berpeluh beb!!

Bridge shot

Nurul, Cat and Shanky ~ Westminster Bridge

At the end of the bridge – Palace of Westminster aka House of Parliament and Big Ben (The world largest four-faced chiming clock).

Big Ben

The Big Ben – Up Close and Personal

After that we went to Picaddily Circus. Jangan salah faham ye.. takde circus kat situ pun.
Hehe.. All these places reminds me of Monopoly.

London Eye - opposite view

View from the opposite site of the river – we walked all the way from there. Phew!

Picadilly Circus – circus in Latin means circle.
Famous for it’s neon lights, shopping and entertainment.
You can see a lot of the London theaters are located here.
Hm.. let’s see.. There’s Mamma Mia!, Queen, Les Miserables and a few others.
The ticket price.. ehem.. GBP40, more or less.
I’m sure there’s a way to get a cheaper price for the show. I just don’t know how. Hehe.

London Theather - Michael Jackson

MJ is playing – Hm.. the legend

Les Miserables

Les Miserables – I wish I can watch it..

Had our dinner here. Picadilly is near to London Chinatown.
Nurul wanted Malaysian food ~ time tu plak ada one restaurant called Rasa Sayang.
Wonder where it is? Google Map this –> 5 Macclesfield Street, London, W1D 6AY

Phew! When someone haven’t got a taste of Malaysian food for quite sometime.. Hehe.
Nurul ordered a lot of food.. a lot as in A LOT for the 3 of us.
Nasib baik dia yang bayor. Hahaha. Kalau tak.. hm..aku cuci pinggan kat dapur la kot.
Well, as long as she’s happy.. let’s see what she ordered.

Food - Rasa Sayang

Food!! Thanks Nurul! Burp!

– Asam Pedas Ikan Kembong (not bad I would say).
– Karipap (weird looking – instant punya kot?)
– Roti Canai (sah2 yang ni instant – takkan ada mamak pulak kat sana kan?)
– Nasi Lemak Rendang Ayam (ni Nurul punya – dia sorang belasah)
– Sate Ayam (tak leh celen Hj Samuri punya satay)
– Teh Tarik ( Aduyai.. tak macam mamak punya lah)

Overall.. okaylah.. Can’t complaint much.
Taste – ada but not very original except for the Asam Pedas and maybe Nasi Lemak.
Price – perghhh!!!!!! Tak hengat punya mahal – seb baik bukan aku yg bayo.
Ambiance – Crowded.. all the tables was arranged very close to each other.
Kat luar still got a long line of people waiting for their turn to be seated.
Hm.. their business is good it seems.

Picadilly Circus Center

End of day 4. Full stomach and tired.

Fifth Day
SHOPPING SPREE DAY!
We’re going to Bicester Village. Pronunciation is like this –> Bister.
Not that easy to go there but trust me it’s worth it.
Amazingly, this place is not included in Nurul’s Lonely Planet Guidebook. Hehe.
Not many people knows about this place especially tourists.
Sham told Shanky about it and the best way to get there.
If you want to know more about this place which consists of 100+ luxury boutique outlets, you can check it out here:
www.bicestervillage.com

 Shuttle Bus to Bicester

Shuttle bus to bicester village – someone is obviously excited. Hehe

The journey to Bicester from Marylebone Station took nearly an hour.
At the station, we took a minivan aka suttle bus to get to the village – it’s included in the train fee. Nice!
So, make sure you plan your journey well. Watch out the closing time as well.

Operating hours

The village operating hours – the pic is a bit senget

Entrance - Bicester Village

How the shops are arranged – Polo Ralph Lauren in the middle

If you’re lucky, you could get designers apparel at a very very cheap price.
Just to name a few outlets:
Calvin Klien, Clarks, DKNY, D&G, FCUK, Jimmy Choo and Ted Baker.
I bought a TED BAKER sling bag for GBP20 and also FCUK cardigans – 3 for GBP20.
Plus 2 pairs of Clark shoes for GBP34.
Quite a bargain huh? Hehehe. Yeah, I know..
If I do the conversion that time with the rate, overall it’s approx around RM370.
Nasib baik my budget for shopping is not as much like ehem, ada orang tu la. Hehehe.
The ladies (including Cat) shopped more than me which is as expected.

Nurul @ Bicester

Didn’t take much pictures here because it was raining every now and then.
Again.. the weather.. *sigh.

The country side

UK country side ~ taken from inside the train

Sixth Day
Today would be the our last day in London.
Packed all our stuffs and kept our heavy luggages in the hotel.
We planned to get it back once we returned from Paris.
We flew with BMI from Heathrow Airport to Amsterdam.
I’ll continue with Amsterdam travelogue in second part.

Damn! it’s a long one.

What’s up doc?

•June 30, 2009 • 4 Comments

I know.. I know..
I still haven’t update anything for my Europe trip.
Sorry la ye.. Busy sangat2!

So many things happened these few weeks.
I couldn’t find proper time to sort out the pics and update the blog.
I just came back from my hometown last weekend.
My parents shifted to a new house.
It’s a total mess. Really tiring..

Nak jadi cerita, my mum told me about the auntie who lives next door.
She’s actually my mum’s friend. Best friend la agaknya kot.
Ada ke patut dia cakap dia nak sangat jadi besan dgn my mum?
Aduiyai! Headache! Headache!
Bukannya aku kenal anak dia pun.. And I don’t think she knows me either.
Match making is so uncool okay!
Payah la aku nak balik kampung next time. Peh!

Just finished my PMP (My Mid Year Performance Report).
It’s really a pain in the ass, honestly.
Nak ‘goreng’ pun tak berapa pandai dah.
Hm.. I used to be really good at that. Heh.
Submitted the ‘copy and paste’ version to David just now. Hehe.

My dad got a job in Brunei.
Offshore thingy and he got a contract for 9 months I think.
Hm.. When he told me that he passed the test, I can’t help to feel amazed and worried at the same time.
The test includes jumping from a helicopter to an open sea and swim for a few miles to safety.
Yeah.. I know.. crazy right? Only 5 out of 8 persons passed that test.
My dad memang tak boleh duduk diam kat rumah.
He loves to work and that’s why my mum can’t say anything.

This Sunday I got an assessment at INTENGAH, KL.
Best part is.. I haven’t prepared anything for it.
Heck! I don’t even know what to prepare and what they have in store for me.
The assessment used to be 3 full days, but they decided to shorten it to 1 day instead.
Maybe the Government nak cut cost kot? Hehe.
Anyway, wish me luck! I really really really need it lor..
I don’t know whether I can pull this one off.
Just wait and see.

Let’s see.. What else huh?
Hm.. New Hire Training starts tomorrow. *sigh.. what’s new?
Cross Training for Singapore market starts next week. Bummer..
Oh! yeah.. I’ve watched Transformers – Thanks to Amex Sports Club.
Bumblebee is so cool! Hehe. Love it!

Next movie to watch will be Ice Age 3. 🙂
I wonder should I watch it in 3D? Hm…

Coming soon..
